Welcome to Ethiopic Restaurant, your home for authentic Ethiopian food in Washington, DC. For over 15 years, my husband, Samuel, and I have proudly served the local community with the best Ethiopian dishes, offering an authentic taste of Ethiopian culture. As one of the most beloved Ethiopian restaurants in the Washington, DC, area, we are committed to providing a warm, inclusive atmosphere where strangers become family and everyone feels at home.
Our passion for sharing Ethiopian cuisine started with a simple need—when we moved to Washington, DC, we couldn’t find a quality Ethiopian restaurant close to where we lived. Missing the flavors of our homeland, we decided to create a place where our local Ethiopian community—and anyone interested in Ethiopian food—could come together to enjoy an authentic meal. With around 35,000 Ethiopians living in the Washington, DC, area, we recognized the importance of creating a gathering spot where people could experience Ethiopian culture in an intimate and inviting space.
Ethiopic Restaurant is named after the ancient Ge’ez language, a key part of Ethiopia’s history, and is still used in Ethiopian Orthodox churches today. Ge’ez’s beautiful script inspires our restaurant’s décor, blending modern design with the timeless elegance of Ethiopian heritage. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or you’ve been with us for years, we strive to create an atmosphere that transports you to Ethiopia with every visit.
Our goal is more than just serving delicious Ethiopian food; we aim to share the heart and soul of Ethiopia. Our menu features traditional Ethiopian dishes, including injera, kitfo, doro wat, and more, made with the finest ingredients and cooked with care.
